About the Counseling Department
The Counseling Department at 黑料正能量 Los Angeles College assists students in making decisions regarding educational, career, and personal concerns. Counseling is available for educational, transfer and career exploration. These services are provided for professional counselors through individual counseling, workshops and referrals to resources on and off campus.
The primary goal of the Counseling Center is to provide opportunities for students to clarify their values and goals, to make decisions, to develop self-confidence, self-direction and self-esteem.
An academic counseling session begins with educational goal-setting, exploring education options and opportunities, evaluating the student鈥檚 educational background, and providing the student with clear, concise, up-to-date educational information. Counselors can assist individuals to assess their interests, strengths, abilities, and values; to set goals; to make plans to accomplish those goals; and to address personal problems or barriers that impede plans to fulfilling those educational goals.
A counseling session will also assist individuals in selecting of appropriate programs of study relative to their chosen objectives. Individual student/counselor conferences are available by appointment. Counseling is available on a walk-in basis during registration only.

New WLAC students now qualify for placement into university-transfer level math and English courses without Assessment testing.
If your student portal does not show a college-level placement for English or math, complete the following steps:
- Login to your Student Portal (mycollege.laccd.edu)
- Under your To-Do Checklist, click on "More to-do list details)
- Click "English & Math Placement" and complete the five-question Web Form. Your new placement will appear within 1 business day.
Visit the Catalog to find out which courses to choose for your major.

If a student believes a course taken at another college or university meets the prerequisite for a 黑料正能量 Los Angeles College course in which he / she wishes to enroll, the student may submit a Prerequisite Clearance Request. To submit a Pre-requisite Clearance Request, please complete the linked form below and email with all documentation to @email.
Prerequisite clearance forms MUST BE SUBMITTED 10 DAYS PRIOR TO A CLASS START DATE. After the semester start date, prerequisite clearance forms will be processed when a student has an instructor's permission to add a class. For online classes permission can be documented by attaching an email from the instructor. Pre-requisite & Assessment Completion Form
If a student has not met a prerequisite requirement, a Pre-requisite Challenge Petition should be submitted to the Department Chairperson along with any supporting documentation.
The student has demonstrated college readiness on Early Assessment Placement (EAP) or Advanced Placement Exams (AP) with scores of 3, 4, or 5 or IB or CLEP (score of 50).

Book an appointment with a counselor. If no counseling appointments are available, you may fill out a for Financial Aid Appeals.
If you have taken non-黑料正能量 coursework, make sure to submit transcripts to Admissions and Records and verify that it has your transcript(s) have been received before making the appointment.
